Great Exuma is the largest island in the chain and home to the charming city of Georgetown, the capital city of the Exumas. Known for its colorful history and colorful architecture, particularly the pink and white Government Building, Georgetown’s deep harbor was used by pirates in the17th century and was used by the British and U.S. Navy during World War II.
Along with Great Exuma, Little Exuma is known for its laid-back surroundings and beautiful scenery. The two islands are connected by a bridge, which the locals call the “Ferry.” The beaches and water is amazing and you and your guests will surely take advantage of the water sports available with your sailing yacht, including water skiing, kayaking, or snorkeling. The beaches here are some of the best in the world, particularly the white sand beach of Tropic of Cancer, also known as Pelican Beach, which is crescent-shaped.
Moria Harbour Cay National Park covers 13,400 acres between Great and Little Exuma and features sand dunes, beaches, mangroves, and seagrass beds. This ecosystem is important to the Bahamas and is a nursery for marine life and nesting area for seabirds.
The Exuma Cays maintain the beautiful surroundings of the two other areas within the island chain, but boast many private homes, luxury resorts, and beachside condos. Often considered a playground for the rich and famous, the Exuma Cays are luxury defined. The Cays themselves range from Major Cay with its domesticated swimming pigs to the stromatolites - the oldest-known macro-fossils on earth - of Stocking Island to Thunderball Grotto on Staniel Cay.
Your sailing charter in the Exumas will sure to be a memorable vacation and an experience that you will want to repeat again and again!
